Pool villas in the Maldives are premium — expect $800–$2,000 per night for good overwater pool villas, and $1,500–$4,000+ for ultra-luxury options. All-inclusive packages can improve value since individual dining on remote islands is expensive. Shoulder season (May–July, October–November) offers lower rates.
The dry season from November to April offers the best weather with calm seas, blue skies, and excellent visibility for snorkelling. This is peak season with the highest prices. The wet season (May–October) brings occasional rain and greener skies but significantly lower prices and fewer crowds.
Many Maldives resorts offer family-friendly pool villas with shallow sections, kids' clubs, and connecting rooms. Resorts like Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru and Conrad Rangali are particularly well-equipped for families. Some resorts are adults-only, so always check before booking.
No — all overwater villas are accessed via wooden walkways (jetties) connected to the main island. You can step directly from your villa deck into your private pool or down stairs into the lagoon. No swimming required for access.
Many overwater villas offer excellent house reef access directly from your deck steps. Some resorts like Anantara Kihavah and Conrad Rangali have exceptional house reefs with manta rays, turtles, and reef sharks. Your private pool is perfect for warming up between snorkelling sessions.
Some resorts offer all-inclusive packages (Kudadoo is fully all-inclusive), but many operate on half-board or bed-and-breakfast basis. Given the remote island setting, upgrading to at least half-board is recommended as individual meal prices on-island can be very high.
Most resorts require a seaplane or speedboat transfer from Malé airport. Seaplane transfers typically take 30–60 minutes and are an experience in themselves. Some resorts in North and South Malé Atoll are accessible by speedboat in 15–45 minutes. Transfers often cost $300–$600 per person return.
